I enjoy the Holidays. They are my second favorite time of year.
What I do not like about this time of year is the down time. No one wants to start a project going into a long weekend. (Do they think that it is going to cut into their turkey and shopping time? I mean, we are talking about what you do at work here!)
For the last two days we have done nothing but “housekeeping.†(Sounds like work, eh?) But in actuality consists of nothing more than the majority of people sitting around saying how bored they are, and that they should let us go home. I know that there are those of us who are actually busting their posteriors right now, but from my vantage point they are few and far between.
I am by far not a workaholic. I just hate being unproductive. If I am not doing anything at work, I would rather be home with my wife and my son. (Soon to be two sons! :)) But that is not to say that I do not want to do my job. If I am accomplishing something at work, I would readily stay as long as it takes to get the job done.
So, let us go back to my title question. Is the lack of productivity in the workplace during the latter half of November, the month of December and the first week of January a contributing factor in Holiday Depression? I guess it depends on the person. But don’t you feel like less of a person when you are not accomplishing anything?
UPDATE: This was actually written by my wife, but I forgot to sign out, and it got posted under my name.
Monday we put up our tree and it is beautiful. We put up lights around the ceiling and stockings on the wall since we do not have a fireplace. Everything that is christmas is up in our house. Now we just have to make sure RJ does not touch the tree. That is a hard thing for the boy to do but he is a good boy so I think it will not be a big problem. RJ got up this morning walked out in the living room and said “mommy turn on the christmas tree.” So I know he likes it.
Putting up the tree and listening to christmas music really gets you in the spirt of christmas. I know it does for me cause as a hormonal pregnant women I had to have a tear since this is our first christmas that we will have ourselves and we have a big tree and two kids. I love the holidays. Happy Holidays to all!!

In the spirit of the Holiday Season, we put up our Christmas tree. I know it is early, but we had the time, and we may not have time later with another little one on the way.
This is significant for two reasons.
The first of which is that we have never held a major holiday at out house. We have been away from home during a major holiday, but a friend or relative hosted the meal. This will be a first for us.
We have never owned a full size Christmas tree. We have two of those little two foot tall Christmas trees, but they are not the same thing. One of my favorite Christmas decorations is an angel that my parents bought me, and this is the first time I will be able to put it on top of a tree.

Every year, my wife and I have a running bet going on the Ohio State versus Michigan game. Usually, I come out victorious. But this time, like Michigan, I was sorely disappointed.
Despite my origination from the state of Ohio, I have always been a Michigan fan. Some people may find that hard to believe, but I did grow up close to the state line.
Despite this years loss to an inferior Ohio State team, I am confident that Michigan will rebound, and be victorious in the only game that matter: next year’s Ohio State versus Michigan game.
My in-laws are happy, and so is my wife, so I guess I will console myself in that fact.
