I live 24.17 miles from work according to mapquest.com, and 24 miles from work according to my odometer. Of this commute, twenty-two miles is interstate driving. This commute usually takes me about an hour on my way home from work. Commuting to work is a different story since I leave before rush hour starts.
It snowed today. Not much, but significantly more than the weatherman had predicted. Taking into account
- Drivers in the national capitol region are by nature discourteous.
- The evening rush hour here is complicated further by a severe abundance of drivers and an antiquated freeway system.
- With very few exceptions, no one here knows how to drive in the snow.
- There were no preparations for the snow. (i.e. salting, sand, plows)
It took me four hours to make it home!
Living in a cultural and political center has many perks, but I cannot wait to move back to the mid-west.
