Marine Barracks Birthday

Today is the 204th birthday of Marine Barracks, Washington D.C. We held a brief ceremony on the Parade Deck and awarded the Good Conduct Medal to CPL Chesty XII, the Barracks mascot. We ended the ceremony with the cutting of a birthday cake, pseudo Marine Corps Birthday style. You cannot scoff at a day that ends with cake.

Simple Secrets

What do you do when you cannot talk about something that really makes you angry?

It is not that I am not emotionally of physically capable of speaking on the matter, but rather that I am obliged by my position not to speak on the subject.

It is a matter of good order an discipline that some happenings must remain undisclosed. I have seen many times that a simple secret has embarrassed people and almost ruined lives.

Example 1

Mrs. New Employee goes to lunch with Mrs. Co-Worker. During the meal the topic turns to a Mutual Acquaintance. Mrs. New Employee makes an off key comment about Mutual Acquaintance to find out that Mrs. Co-Worker is friends with Mutual Acquaintance’s mother.

But maybe this is not a great example. Mrs. New Employee was not keeping a secret, save her opinion, if you would consider that a secret. This would be an excellent opportunity for Mrs. New Employee to learn some discretion.

Example 2

Mr. Mid-Level Manager knows something that will help Mrs. Lower-Level Manager on the job. This information may be detrimental to the Company, and would compromise Mr. Mid-Level Manager’s integrity. Mr. Mid-Level Manager keeps this information to himself because that is what he is obligated to do, despite his friendship with Mrs. Lower-Level Manager.

This example is more along the lines of what I am talking about. The conflict arises from the conflicting obligations. Mr. Mid-Level Manager must either compromise his integrity or watch a friend suffer unduly.

Neither of these examples reflects my particular predicament. These examples merely demonstrate similar situations so that you may understand where I am coming from.

It all comes down to your personal preference. Whatever you do, someone is going to get disappointed.

I have Yahoo! 360 invites! If anyone is interested please leave a comment.

You do not need to post your e-mail address in the comment as long as you fill out your e-mail in the comment form, which is required to post a comment anyways.

High Schools Ban Blogging

It has come to this. School Administrators have banned
blogging
from school computers citing a lack of educational purpose as a deciding factor. However, the principle stated that it is more of a parental concern than a school concern.

I will leave you with this thought: Are students allowed to access e-mail at school? This definitely serves an education purpose. I did a bulk of my communication with professors via e-mail. (I did not even have an e-mail account until I went to college.)

If they are allowed access to e-mail, I believe they should be allowed access to their blog.

But, if you are using WordPress or Blogger, just e-mail your post to your site and avoid the whole hassle.

The next thing you know the UN will want to regulate the internet. No, wait, that already happened.

Back in D.C.

I am back in the District for the last time. The next time that I go home, I will go home permanently. It is a wonderful feeling.

It has been a rough few weeks, being separated from my wife and children. We have endured long absences before, but this is the first time that they were in a new place.
