You can get a WordPress.com blog without an invite by installing Flock!

Once you have installed Flock, click on Create a Blog Post (the little feather) to post to your blog, and than click on “Need a Blog? Click here to set one up.” The main browser page will display three choices: WordPress, TypePad or Blogger. Click on WordPress and voila! you are now a WordPress.com user.
