Lately, A Family Guy has been taking an abnormally long time to load. It was even noticeable on my connection, so I am sure that it was even more noticeable on dial-up or DSL. I have been trying to figure it out for a week or so, and have done everything from optimizing my CSS(link) (Cascading Style Sheets) to removing images. There is really no way that I can cut down on my script size, as it is part of the WordPress core, but that has never been a problem in the past.
I got the idea in my head that it may be a latent incompatibility issue with one of the older plug-ins and WordPress 2.0, so I went about clearing out plug-ins. I have not used many of these in a long time, and others I just do nut use with the current theme. Along the way I accidentally deleted a necessary file. I did not notice this at first, but I was quite dismayed when I realized what I ad done.
Anyway, if you were one of the eight people that attempted to view this site, sorry.
I am thinking that it may be one of the scripts from Measure Map, as this does not seem to happen when I remove the main script. Does anyone else have any ideas on why the page load may be stalling?
We were chased out of Church today … not by other members, but by RJ.
I can remember a couple of times growing up that my parents brought us home from Church early, but they are faint, distant memories. I know that it happens, and I have seen it happen before, but it has never happened to me before.
I take solace in the fact that out bible study group is one on marriage. This means that most, if not all, of our classmates in this Bible study have children. As embarrassing as this morning was, most of them have been through it as well.
CARACAS, Venezuela – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called the U.S. government an “immoral empire” and repeated accusations of spying Friday, threatening to arrest any American officials caught gathering intelligence on his military.
Chavez’s warning came hours after his vice president, Jose Vicente Rangel, accused officials at the U.S. Embassy of involvement in a spying case involving several Venezuelan naval officers who allegedly passed sensitive information to the Pentagon.
In other news … Venezuela has a military.
Nearly four months ago my wife and I had a competition to see who could get a second job first. Beth won. Although I think she cheated, since she came home the day after we decided to have the competition with another job.
Last weekend was Beth’s last weekend working her second job. I am glad to have her home, and more importantly, so are the boys.
Beth moved back to Ohio last February, while I stayed in Washington D.C., finishing out my enlistment. I made it out here every chance I had, which was about every three weeks or so. Except for my final trip back, every trip was coated in snow. I am not talking about flurries, either. I am talking about BIG snow.
I was very excited to see some of that this year, but it seems as though mother nature has other ideas. Where is the snow?
RJ is exploring math. He regularly asks what one and one make, and what three and five make, etc. Sometimes his toddler mind wanders, and he’ll ask what do Batman and Spiderman make.
It takes a bit of effort not to respond, “Really ugly children.”
This evening, Tony had just gone to bed, and RJ asked, “What do RJ and Tony make?”
I replied, “Boys.”
Then I asked, “What do Mommy and Daddy make?”
“RJ happy.” was the response.
I love being a Dad.
I am not a huge fan of purchasing extended warranties. For me, nine times out of ten, they are a wasted expense. There have only been three times in my life that I have purchased an extended warranty, and only one product that I will purchase an extended warranty for in the future.
My first extended warranty purchase was for my first computer, which I still have, quitely serving pages from the basement. During the life span of this PC, we have only has one hardware problem – the power supply. Much to my chagrin, this (HP) computer required a proprietary power supply due to space constraints. The cost to me would have been $130. The alternative would have been switching out the case, for as little as $30 and using a standard power supply for about $35. I was not out any money for the new power supply, but I was still in the hole for $170 on the warranty. I have never purchased another extended warranty on consumer electronics, nor have I had a problem with any of them while they would have been covered by the warranty.
I have also purchased an extended warranty on every used vehicle I have purchased. Incidentally, all of these vehicles were for my wife, and I/my parents have paid a grand total of around $2500 for all three vehicles I have ever owned. Both of these warranties have paid for themselves and then some.
The first car we bought for Beth was a 1998 Dodge Neon. This was a necessity as her vehicle at the time was quite literally falling to pieces. The final straw was when Beth had a flat tire, and when they put the car on the lift, chunks of rust/chassis fell from the bottom on the car. Beth was eight months pregnant at the time, and having a four door car instead of a sports car was also going to be a necessity. We had quite a few adventures in this car, the best of which being when the windshield wipers went out in the middle of a blizzard while we were in the middle of the Appalachian mountains. (I used a snow brush as a makeshift wiper and drove the next hundred miles with my arm out the window. There were several minor repairs over the time that we owned this vehicle that made the warranty purchase for this vehicle worthwhile.
Beth’s dream car has always been a mini van. When we found out that she was expecting again, we decided we needed something larger. I gave in, as I do quite frequently with my wife, and we purchased a Dodge Grand Caravan. The van we purchased was the trade in of the people who left as we were coming in. It was exactly what we explained to the salesman that we wanted, and they even let me test drive it before they had a chance to clean it up. I could tell from the test drive that there were going to be transmission problems, so i made sure to purchase a thorough warranty. Less than a month after we purchased the vehicle, the transmission went bad, and was replaces under warranty, nearly doubling the return of the warranty.
The van has been acting up, so we brought it in for service. I had not thought about the warranty for nearly two years. I dug though the paperwork, and discovered that the van was only 1000 miles away from the warranty expiring. Again, it was fixed with no glitches. To date, this warranty has paid for itself nearly three times over.
I have never not had a warranty pay for itself with a used car purchase. Altogether I have had over a 200% return on the investment of purchasing a warranty. With the rising gas prices, and the fact that RJ is almost out of a car seat, we are fathoming the purchase of a new, more efficient, vehicle. If we do decide to purchase a new to us vehicle, or maybe a brand new vehicle, I will be sure to purchase an extended warranty.
Tony is still feeling a little under the weather, so we decided to keep him home from Church today. Beth and RJ still attended the early service and Bible Study/Sunday School. This week marks the beginning of a new Bible Study class for the adults. Our Church offers several different classes each session, and the class the we decided to attend is, “The Masterpiece Marriage.” Beth dutifully attended this class, alone. If it were not for the abundance of other displaced spouses in attendance, I would think that this would not bode well for us in this class.
