Happy Mom’s Day

I cannot day that I am too terribly in to mother’s day. For that matter, I am not too terrible into father’s day, either. I have seen too many mothers use this day as an excuse.

“You owe me because I am your mother!”

We do not owe mothers anything! They are simply doing what is required of their chosen path in life. And many of them are not even doing that minimum. I have seen too many mothers (and fathers) view their kids as a burden and treat them accordingly. Just because you have the physical capability to fornicate and produce offspring does not mean that one should.

A few years ago I sympathized with these parents. I thought that they must have a particularly burdensome task. Now, having two little ones of my own, I know that it is a particularly burdensome task. But this is not a task that I take lightly. I do not view my children as an obstacle, and neither did my Mom.

That in my mind, is the difference between a mother and a Mom: the physical ability versus the moral responsibility. So to my Mom and my wife, Happy Mom’s Day. You deserve it.
