It was not very long ago that I realized that my boys had never seen the Wizard of Oz. I also didn’t realize how much of my every day vernacular this movie had affected.
Chasing the boys around the house saying, “I’ll get you, my pretty” had much less meaning without knowledge of the Wicked Witch of the West.
When the boys spill, and some of it gets on me and I say, “I’m meelllllting” didn’t have nearly the same effect.
The movie has been on television a lot lately, so I recorded it one evening, hoping that they boys would sit through it, if only once. It was bit of struggle, but I did manage to convince them to watch the movie. To my surprise, they have watched it every day this week. It warms my heart to see my boys enjoying something that I enjoyed when I was a child.

My little boy is five today.
Why can’t kids just sit still for a picture instead of making faces. He is such a little goofball sometimes.

The boys really enjoyed the first snowfall of year that lasted longer than a couple of hours, even though it wasn’t that much. They had just as much playing in the slush when it melted.

RJ starts the second grade in the morning. It is hard to believe that I am the father of a second grader. He is very excited because he in the class of the teacher that he wanted. He also started Taekwondo. He took a couple of classes at the community center over the summer and really enjoyed them.
Tony starts his second year of preschool in a couple of weeks. He really wants to be like his brother, so we brought him an embroidered backpack, just like we did for RJ. He is very excited about going back to school.
With the boys getting older, we decided we really need a yard. The condo was a great starter home, but we really need a place with yard for the boys to play. So we put the condo on the market. It is very difficult with both Beth and I working to keep the house clean, but somehow we manager.
I honestly believe we have made more improvements to the condo in the last couple of weeks that we have since we moved in, but that is probably exaggeration. we are focusing more on the outside, since the inside is already beautiful, and it is as good as it is going to get.
Since we moved in four years ago our mailbox has been sitting in posts held up by cinder blocks. Yesterday that changed. It took about four hours of my time and three trips to Home Depot, but the mailbox posts are not firmly planted in the ground.
Well, no matter what happens, we will be the better for it.
Is anyone in the market for a condo?

This is our favorite picture from 2007. Yes, the photo was manipulated a bit but a little photoshop never hurt anyone.

The new year is a time for reflection. Most of us think of what we want to accomplish in the new year, me included. But it is also important, whether goals were met or not, to reflect on the accomplishments and changes of last year. In no particular order, (oh heck, they are pretty much chronological) these events include:
- RJ had his first optometrist appointment. His vision was good, which was source of concern with his genes.
- RJ had his first recital. He was in what the studio called “karate,” but it was more tumbling.
- Tony visited the dentist for the first time. He finally had all of his (baby) teeth.
- Beth returned to her position as domestic engineer. Having Beth stay home with the boys was definately the biggest change of the year.
- My Dad retired. We were all taking bets on how long it would take him to get another job, at least part time. None of us were right, but we are all glad that he is enjoying his retirement.
- Tony got his first haircut from RJ and RJ gave his first haircut. This is not really a major change or milestone, but was definitely the most humorous event of the year.
- Beth, RJ and Tony had their first camping experience. I was a bit worried about Beth, but she liked it enough that we went again.
- RJ started kindergarten.
On this note I hope that everyone’s 2007 was filled with many happy memories, and 2008 brings more of the same.
Happy New Year!

Santa Claus stopped by yesterday afternoon to check up on the boys and get an early jump on the Holiday Season. According to Mr. Claus he was in town to get some good food for the reindeer as their grazing lands up north were covered in snow up to their antlers.
During his visit Santa opened by reading the boys a story. After the story was over, each boy had a turn on Santa’s lap. Santa even brought one present for each boy early!
Santa graciously posed for numerous pictures.

Neither my wife nor my boys have ever been camping before. So I took them camping. Beth grew up in a somewhat sheltered environment, so I was a bit worried about her using the outhouse. She and the boys got used to it an actually enjoyed themselves.
I threw some pictures of the more memorable moments up here so Beth could actually prove that she went and survived.
