New Job

Yesterday was the last day at my old job and I start my new one on Monday. Wish me luck. :)

I thought things were supposed to slow down during the summer?

I remember spending a lot of time at my Grandma and Grandpa’s house when I was growing up. These memories are very vivid, despite the fact that they happened a couple of decades ago. So, in turn, I am glad to provide this opportunity to my boys.

This is Tony’s week with Grandma and Grandpa. (RJ had his week in June. We thought it best to spread the visits out a little bit to provide some recovery time.) This is not the first time Tony has spent the night somewhere else, but it is the longest time.

This is a welcome break for Beth and me. Between my seventy hour work weeks I find it difficult to give the boys the attention that they need. My hours have also changed to coincide with the European business day since I am working with folks from the UK. (They even had me working on the Fourth, but I made them all wish me a happy Independence Day, so I was amused enough to keep on working.)

Beth has been busy with her home business, but she seems much more relaxed than when she was working an office job. I am happy for her, and her lack of stress is much better for me, too.

TGI … darn, it’s only Tuesday

This is one of those weeks. I started Monday on track, ready for the beginning of a new work week. I got to work at 9:00 A.M. and by 9:10 A.M. everything had gone to heck. Things got back on track today, but that still leaves me two days behind.

Things that would have kept this from happening:

  1. Do not fly off of the handle.
  2. Ask questions. Wait for answers.
  3. Don’s assume that you know what is going on.
  4. If you have a problem with somebody, ask them.
  5. Do not go off half cocked. This is magnified considerably when you are horribly wrong in the first place.

I am sure that this happens everywhere, but that just means that it is irritating everywhere, not that I should not try and do something about it.

My Job

I have been at my new job for a little over a month now, and I am definitely getting used to it. It is repetitive, but there is enough variance that I do not get bored.

I do, on the other side of things, tend to get slap happy when things go awry. My job puts me at the very end of a vast number of processes, and therefore I am dependent upon others to complete my assigned tasks on time.

On top of that, I am also dependent upon technology. I know that technology is only as good as the creator and user, but the use of technology is greatly hindered by the large number of people that (a) have access and (b) alter said programming.

Here is to having one day to redo a weeks worth of work.
